The festival will be held at various locations in Ilkley.
Theme for the first edition
Ilkley: Best Place to Live
photoILKLEY is a grassroots celebration of photography’s unique power to connect, to question, and to see the world anew. Dedicated exclusively to photographic art, the festival brings together a vibrant range of thought-provoking work that invites us to look closer - at Ilkley, at each other, and at the stories we live every day.
For this first edition, we reflect on the theme: "Ilkley: Best Place to Live", inspired by Ilkley’s recent recognition in The Sunday Times’ annual Best Places to Live guide - topping the North and Northeast rankings after being named the national winner in 2022 But what makes a place the "best" - and whose experiences are we celebrating?
Born from a desire to foster community through photographic storytelling, photoILKLEY hopes to spark conversations, challenge assumptions, and celebrate the complex, creative pulse of our town and beyond.
We are committed to making space for younger voices too. Our Young Photographer Competition invites children and young people to share their own visions of Ilkley and the world, offering a vital platform for emerging talents and fresh perspectives.
Whether you're picking up a camera for the first time or have spent a lifetime behind the lens, photoILKLEY invites you to experience Ilkley through fresh eyes - and to explore the stories that photography has the power to reveal.
